The University of North Carolina AIDS Clinical Trials Unit (ACTU) is dedicated
to conducting and developing research of HIV infection and its associated
opportunistic infections and providing access to promising clinical protocols
to persons living with HIV.

Detection of Acute Infections during HIV Testing in North Carolina
A team of scientists from UNC ACTU, UNC CFAR, and
the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services published results of
the first year of an enhanced program to diagnose HIV infection. See the New

Response to HIV in Africa
A number of UNC ACTU investigators are devoted to international work in
HIV/AIDS. A highlight of this work is the UNC Project in Lilongwe, Malawi.

UNC ACTU Faculty Leading in the Development of Antiviral Therapy as Part of HIV
Prevention
Drs. Cohen, Eron, Kashuba, and others have conducted a series of studies
designed to understand the pharmacology of antiviral therapy in the genital
tract. Dr. Cohen is the Chair of the NIH HPTN-ACTG Prevention Working group
