Training


Lillian Brown is an MD epidemiology PhD student at UNC who will be working in Malawi this year on a randomized study of different methods of contact tracing and Jon Samuel is a surgical resident at UNC who will be conducting a comparative study of burn patients with and without HIV infection and the impact on various immunologic factors.

Fellowship Program

The Infectious Diseases Program, located in the Center for Infectious Diseases at the University of North Carolina has provided outstanding training, research and patient care for more than forty years.  Information for applicants to the Infectious Diseases Program can be found here.

Members
The Infectious Diseases faculty includes clinicians, scientists and research faculty. A large number of affiliated faculty from the disciplines of microbiology and public health participate in research and educational programs.



Clinical Activity
Infectious Diseases clinicians provide medical care in facilities throughout the Triangle, elsewhere in NC, and in Malawi, a central African country.



Research Activity

The Center For Infectious Diseases includes 13 different research programs or centers, addressing HIV (behavioral prevention, vaccines, and treatment), STIs, microbicides, and biodefense and emerging infections.


UNC researchers presented over 30 abstracts at the 2008 CROI in Boston, MA.
